I hope your batteries haven't ran out just yet XD A few weeks ago I broke my left wrist while breakdancing, so that kept me from updating the guide any sooner. However, I do fell better today, so get ready! This is going to be a big update, and by the time I finish this, you'll be able to finish the game too! Oh, also, I hope you've heard about UBI Soft releasing a new version of Prince of Persia for the next-generation systems! I don't know about you, but that's VERY good news to me! That means that soon you'll be able to read my Prince of Persia guide for your Nintendo Gamecube game! Of course, until then, I guess the old school game will have to do it... [Version 1.00] February 03, 2003 - 17:33 (MST) I'm starting my First Nintendo Gameboy game guide! So far I've got the basic layout all laid-out :) I also got some of the walkthrough done (up to the second level). ___________________________________________________________________________ .:: 2) Introduction ::. Once upon a time, me, a humble everyday citizen, got a personal computer... And like every PC back in the day, my machine came equipped with the Disk Operating System -- the DOS! (and not Da Operating System, like I used to think =P) Anyway, as I searched through the system, I learned that there was this game called Prince of Persia in the machine, which got me quite 'sucked' into it. The game somehow got me to develop this crazy admiration for the unknown (to me, anyways) country of Persia.... And it also became my favorite game (at the time, of course =P). But almost a decade later (or something like that), I came across the Nintendo Gameboy version of the game. It was a straight port, which needless to say, made me was way happy about it! So... About two years or so after such wonderful event, I came across a new hobby -- FAQ writing! So in short, this is the reason I'm writing this document. For one, I love this game so bad, I just feel the need and the desire to help all of you who love this game like I do! Secondly, there are no FAQ's for this game (accurate as of March 13, 2003) on GameFaqs.com, which is rather embarrassing from my point of view =P As I said, this document will (hopefully) help reduce some of your frustration as you go about your quest to rescue your lovely princess, who now happens to be princeless as well.... Good luck! ___________________________________________________________________________ .:: 3) Plot ::. Well, this is what I call a pretty flat and phat plot... There is this evil dude that wants to ruin someone's life... This time, what he does is take the princess (I assume she got kidnapped?), and plans to force himself on her. BUT... He decides to go for a walk or something, so before he gets back, and executes his evil plan, you, the prince of Persia, must escape from the dark and dangerous dungeons, and rescue your beloved girl, before your time runs out (before the evil Wizard comes back). ___________________________________________________________________________ .:: 4) Controls ::. ---------------------------------- | [ Buttons ] | ---------------------------------- | START : Pause the game/Selects | | Select : -- | | A : Attack | | B : Jump | ---------------------------------- | [ Control Pad ] | ---------------------------------- | Up : Climb up | | Down : Climb down/Pick up item | | Left : Run left | | Right : Run right | ---------------------------------- ___________________________________________________________________________ .:: 5) Password cracker ::. This game uses passwords to save your game progress. (believe it or not, there were no memory cards back in the day!) However, in case you forgot to jot down your password before you quit playing last time you played, or if you just don't feel like playing it, and want to beat the game with little-to-no effort, here's how you can make your own password(s): Remember, the password is made of an eight digit number. The password only holds the value of three variables though: The amount of time you have left (in minutes), the amount of lives you have, and the level you're currently in. Div 10 = number of multiples of 10 in the number. Say you want to go to level 10, with 9 lives, and 10 minutes left... This is what you do (so that's 10, 09, 10 for level, lives, and time): First digit is the mod 10 of Level mod 10 (0) plus Level div 10 (1) plus Lives (9). That equals 10, but THE MOD 10 is only zero. So our first number is 0. Now, the second digit is the Mod 10 of the Time mod 10 (0) plus the Time Div 10 (1). That's one. The third digit is the Mod 10 of the Lives mod 10 (9), plus the Level Div 10 (0). Again, the number we got is our digit -- 9. For the fourth digit, we just need the number of lives we have. Remember, in this game you can only have 9 lives, so there's no way the fourth digit can be anything greater than 9. In our case, though, it's 9. Fifth digit: Time Mod 10 (0). Sixth digit is the Time Div 10 (1). Seventh and Eight digits are the Level Mod (0) and Level Div (1) respectively... So according to our calculations, we have the following number: 01990101 But keep in mind that that's only our 'calculated' number. Now we need to go translate it using our table.... After each number is translated, this is what we get: 54885454 Any questions, email me. But of course, if you want to thank me for finding this out, don't! The credits for this ingenious discovery goes to Jan and Rob (whose email I couldn't find). ___________________________________________________________________________ .:: 6) Walkthrough ::. Here we go... Follow this closely, and your princess will no longer be princeless in under 30 minutes (assuming you're starting the game from level one, and not stopping to go eat, and pause the game =P) Of course, if you do need to go eat, pause the game, or go lay a big ol' (...), go ahead and take a break (I think the princess can wait =P). Also, according to the game manual (that's what Nintendo says), you should stop and take a 15-30 minutes break for every two hours of game play. Even if you don't think it's necessary, I'd still recommend you stop and rest, even though not very many people have been repoted dead after playing games for long periods of time (only two South Korea dudes so far...). ........................................................................... [ LEVEL 1 ] Okay, there are two ways to get through this level: Speed (smart choice!) and brutal force (cool, but not so smart of a choice). The way I will guide you will be the first one, speed (and again, that's the smart choice!). As you start the game, you will see a door behind you, but it will be shut down, meaning that you can't go through it. That's not a big deal, since we won't even need to open that door... Now, what you want to do is go straight ahead (to your right), then down. Before you go down the next pit, know this: If it wasn't for me, you'd actually just run off and down there, and eventually dying from doing so... But since I'm here, don't do that! Just walk slowly to the edge, turn around, and press down. Now walk to the screen to your right. There is going to be an *armed* guard there, and since you don't have a sword (or a gun or any other weapon of that sort), the odds are slightly on the guard's favor... Don't try to get past him by running him over! That'll not quite work the way you think it will (or should). Just stand on the left side of the screen with the guard on, and wait for the guard to start following you. Now have the stupid guard follow you to the screen on your left, and once you're there, make sure he's standing as far to the left as possible. Here's the trick: There is a loose tile on the ceiling, and that is exactly what our plan is! Use that opening to get past the guard without actually touching him. Of course, now that the guard is in your left, run to the right screen, and to the next one over to finish the first level in only a few seconds. ........................................................................... [ LEVEL 2 ] This level is way too wide... In fact, I think this is the widest level in the whole entire game! Of course, Nothing is going to stop us from getting through it in the blink of an eye ;) As in the first level, we're not really going to be using our sword (which we don't have yet), so therefore we're not killing anyone (peace, man!). As you start, go to your left... Jump left twice and run right by that first dude. Go to your left, but don't go down. Keep going to your left, keeping in mind that we're staying on that same floor (latitude wise). Jump over that wall in front of you, the up, and up again. Like we did with the fist guard, jump twice to get by the sworded man trying to kill us. Step on the elevated tile on the floor to open the door over ahead of you. Make sure you don't just jump down this first tileless opening here. Like we did in the first level, walk up to the edge of it (on the left side), turn your back to it, and press down. Press down once again, and get the healing potion on your right. Stay on that same floor, and run all the way to your left. Go up, and once again, jump over the guard there. Take the potion here as you wish, and go up this other wall. Again, on the opening on the ceiling, you can go right and left, and take the two potions there as you will. Go back down to where you were, and take that loooong jump to your left. Make sure you stand on the edge of the screen in order to safely jump over that guard dude. For another easy (and free!) potion, go up, right and up to your left. Other wise, just keep on going to your left. Just make sure you pay very close attention to the spikes on the floor! Believe me, they'll hurt you so bad, you'll wish you'd taken my word... Fall down this lethal pit in case you feel like dying, but jump to your left in case you want to live (that's what I would choose XD). Go up twice and use the opening on the ceiling... Of course, you could either go to your right(after the second jump) and fought the guard, or you could had gone to your left (after the first vertical jump), and finished the level from 'behind' it. Either way, you'll get to the same place (hopefully). ........................................................................... [ LEVEL 3 ] This level is actually pretty easy (like all of the others)... As you start, carefully go through the three eating-doors. (they will actually eat you if you aren't careful enough!) If you feel pretty good about yourself, you may even run back and forth through this steal trap, but since the timer won't stop (even if you do feel good about yourself), I don't really recommend you do that (although that would be rather entertaining!)... Anyhoo, go left and jump dowon into the floor below you, and unless you want to die, go left a bit more. Take your time making these three jumps, but don't let it freak you out! What you want to do now is, climb up so that you trigger the lever and open the gate. Now, this might require some professionalism, but I'm sure you can do it with out dieing a billion times.... Run and make two (not one, two) long jumps without stopping between them. There will be yet another one of those eating-doors that you'll have to go through, but since you got good at it by going through the first three, I'm pretty sure you won't get chopped this time =P Now what you want to do is walk right and fight the skeleton that will some fight you... The best and most effective way to finish this tough guy is to run right past him, and let him kill himself. Make sure you keep your sword out as you run past him, and keep on walking backwords, as he will come follow you. Don't be afraid of falling off the edge! That's actually our goal here! Once you do fall off the edge, hold the B button and grab the edge of that wall. Stay there, and watch your enemy commit suicide right before your eyes. ANSWER: Well, as far as I understand it, the Gameboy and the DOS versions are the same, but the SNES version changes a little bit. In the SNES, there are like, eight extra levels, and the game gets even harder, too! ........................................................................... QUESTION: How many levels are there in the game? ANSWER: This game, unlike the SNES version, only has 12 levels. ........................................................................... QUESTION: Is this game hard? ANSWER: Oh yes! If you like a somewhat short game with a gigantic difficulty level, this time is for you! It took me about a month to beat it the fist time I played it. Not that I'm the best player ever, but if that's what you want me to be?! ........................................................................... QUESTION: Where can I buy this game?
