Prince Of Persia Training FAQ By Mete Tanyeri metamania@hotmail.com ----------------------------------- Introduction Progress/Updates Controls Training Walkthrough Credits/Thanks Copyrights ----------------------------------- -------------------- Introduction -------------------- Welcome to my very first FAQ on the training mode for Prince Of Persia on the Super Nes! Although the main game is what's important, I thought to write up a short guide in order to help beginners get a good idea of what to face in the real deal. It's going to be a short, yet detailed guide, so I hope you enjoy it and if you have any questions or comments, feel free to send me an email at the address located at the beginning of this FAQ. --------------------- Progress/Updates --------------------- March 18: I finished both on the introduction and control section March 19: I completed the section for the first stage of the training mode. March 20: I completed the section for the second stage of the training mode. March 21: I completed the section for the third and fourth stages of the training mode and have held off the fifth training section until tomorrow. March 22: I finished the last section for the fifth stage of the training, wrote up both the Credits/Thanks and Copyrights section, did last-minute corrections, and sent GameFAQs the guide. --------------------- Controls --------------------- Before moving on to the walkthrough of the training mode, it is best that we review the controls so that you may understand what each purpose each button of the SNES controller serves. Left/right- If you press left or right, you'll steer your main character in that direction. Up- If you press up while standing, the character will do a short jump, with his hands and arms above himself so that he may grab a ledge that's above him. In battle, if you touch up, you are able to defend yourself against your opponent. Down- If you press down while standing, you'll see your character either crouch or go down a platform. Y/X/A- All three buttons have two tasks that you can perform with your character. You can either drink a potion or you can strike your opponent with your weapon during a battle. However, the A button has one thing more. If you hold down A while moving your character, he will move slowly, allowing you to reach the end of the platform without running too fast or to avoid spikes that are near your feet. B- When you are either standing or running, press B so that your character can jump. Jumping will be useful in the game, as it is required to jump from one platform to the next or to avoid traps, such as spikes. ---------------------- Training Walkthrough ---------------------- Press start, then move your cursor until it has "Training" highlighted and press A. Your training begins now! ---------------- Training 1 ---------------- As the door shuts behind you, start moving to the left to get to the second room. When you enter, you'll see a platform, so go near the ledge and press up to hoist your character up to the platform. When that's done, go to the other side and drop yourself down or you can do a jump to get off the platform and move on. In the second room, do a dashing jump to reach the other side, then jump up to the platform and continue to the third room. When you enter the third room, you'll discover that a dashing jump is not an option, unless you want to either die or see one of your bottles of energy being taken away, only giving you two bottles of energy left. So, to be on the safe side, hold A and walk up to the end of the platform that you're on and press down to get to the platform that's below. Again, repeat for the second, then go near the platform that's above your head and jump up until you reach the top, then continue to the fourth room. Next, as you are leaving the third room room, make sure to start running. When you enter, as you are running, press B to perform a dashing jump that will take you to the other side of the room. Once that's done, continue on to the fifth and last room of the first training stage. The last room of the first part of your training will have a door that needs to be opened. To open the door, just step on the third tile on the far right. Once that's done, just go near the staircase and press up to see your character running up the steps. Your first training is complete, so let us move on to the second part of your training. ---------------- Training 2 ---------------- As the door shuts behind you, notice that the gate to the left is closed and must be opened before moving on. To open the door, step on the second tile on the far right and the gate will open. Once the gate is opened, hurry and go through the gate, as you only have a minute to go through the gate and into the second room before it shuts down. You'll come to expect this through the main game as well As you reach the second room room, go up the two platforms and step on the tile next to the second ledge that you jumped on to reach the third room. When you enter the room, hold down A and move your character to the left until he can go no further, then jump to the middle platform. Once you reach the middle platform, repeat the same technique so that you may reach the platform that will bring you to your next destination, which is the fourth room. In the fourth room, run all the way to the left, so that the tiles can shake and fall down, and DO NOT STOP. If you stop, you'll fall down, with the tiles and most likely die. When this is done, turn around, slowly walk up to the end of the ledge, then turn around and press down to climb down that ledge and the next one. When you get to the third ledge, turn around and jump to the other side then up to the big potion and drink it and look at your energy meter. It turns out that a fourth bottle is added, thus giving you four bottles to have, which means more energy for you! Once that's done, go to the edge of the platform and press down to continue to the fifth room When you enter the fifth room, think back to the third room of the second part of your training and you'll know what to do. Slowly walk up to the edge of the platform and jump to the next platform. Repeat the same technique so that you may head on to the sixth room. As you are leaving the fifth room, start running. When you enter the sixth room, as you're running, perform a dashing jump to reach the next platform and continue to the seventh room. Once you enter the seventh room, jump up to the ledge and run all the way to the right and again, DO NOT STOP until the tiles have shaken, then fallen to the ground. The tile on the left that falls will hit the switch, allowing the gate to be opened (sometimes, this happens in the game, so you don't have to worry about a time limit). Once the gate is opened, turn around and jump down the two ledges below you, then head to the right to go to the eighth and final room. The final room is, once again, a door that needs to be opened. If you look closely, you'll see a platform above on the right side of the room. When you are near it, just press up gently (you don't have to step on the platform) and the main character's hands will touch the tile, allowing the door to open. Then go near the staircase and press up to see your character rushing up the stairs. Alright! You have completed the first two parts of your training, thus mastering the concept of grabbing on to ledges and jumping from one platform to another. However, you still have much to learn... ---------------- Training 3 ---------------- As the door shuts behind you, run to the left and jump up to the platform that's above you, then proceed to the left and enter the second room. Before going into this room, again...make sure that you are running to the left. When you reach the second, once you are close enough, do a dashing jump to reach the other side. Once that's done, a tile will fall to the ground as you touch it. If you die several times, then do not be angry - it will take a few tries and a little bit of patience and timing to make the jump. In fact, when it comes down to jumping, timing is essential. Once you crossed the gap between the two platforms, keep on going left to reach the third room. The third room is just like the second one, the difference being that none of the tiles will fall, so again, make sure to run so that you can perform a good jump that enables you, the player, to reach the other platform. Once that's done, proceed into the fourth room. In the fourth room, DO NOT DO A DASHING JUMP. If you do, you'll land on a ground that brings out spikes that will stab you. Spikes mean instant death, so it's better not to go there. Instead, walk up to the platform that you are on until you can no longer go any further, then turn around and press down (on the Directional Pad) to go down on the ledges until you reach the fifth room. Once you hit the bottom of the fifth room, just go right until you enter the sixth room. Just like before, make sure to run to the right as you enter the sixth room so that you may jump to the other side. If you make a mistake and land on the ground, spikes will be there to relieve you of your life, so make sure to be careful. Once that's done, enter the seventh room of the third training stage. When you enter the seventh room, reach to the end of the platform that you are on, turn around, and go down the ledge of the second platform. When that's done, hold down A and start walking to the end of the platform. If you run too quickly, a pair spikes will come out of the second tile on the right to kill you, so be cautious. When you reach the end, jump down and head right to the eighth and final room of the third training stage. Once you go in the last room, jump up to the ledge on the right, then all the way to the right until your feet stumble upon a tile that will allow the door to be opened. With that accomplished, head back to the staircase and proceed to the next training level. Three down, two to go. It won't be that easy, but with this guide, it should be a piece of cake! ---------------- Training 4 ---------------- Once the door shuts behind you, you won't have to go through any gates this time, so proceed to the left side to reach the second room. In the second room, you'll encounter another trap - a mirror that barely strikes a resemblance to a guillotine. To pass this minor obstacle, have your character walk slowly to the front of the mirror, then wait for the right time to jump. Once it closes on itself then goes back up, jump! Otherwise, you'll die and you have to start the stage all over again {this is the case for any stage, so keep this mind at all times). Once you jump over to the other side, head left to go into the third room. The third room has the same idea, BUT this time, two mirrors are side- by-side, with the first mirror opening and closing with the second doing the same movement a split-second later. This will be hard to do, but when you run into the third room, time your dashing jump so that you can jump into the other side without getting your body cut up. Then again, a dashing jump may do the trick, but the next trick, for this room, may be safer. Walk up to the first mirror, then go through it by holding A and pressing left. Do this only when you are given the opportunity to do so. When you are between the two mirrors, then repeat the same technique for the second mirror. Once you are clear, move on to the fourth room. In the fourth room, you will see two mirrors, but they are not side-by- side this time, rather they are distant from each other. Compared to the last room, this room is not a problem! Walk up to the front of the mirror, then jump to the other side before the mirrors comes down. Repeat the same for the next mirror and head to the fifth room. When you reach the fifth room, you'll see a couple of ledges to go down, so walk (or run) to the edge of the platform that you're on, turn around, then press down to go down the ledges until you reach the sixth room. Once you get into the sixth room, just go right to reach the seventh room. The seventh room only has one mirror in the center, so you can either time your jump to reach the other side, or walk through it carefully. After accomplishing this, move on to the eighth room. When you enter the eighth room, two mirrors are side-by-side, with the left mirror doing its thing before the right. Walk up to the left mirror and wait for the right time to jump. When you get to the other side, proceed to the ninth room. The ninth room has two mirrors, but they are distant from each other. Think back to your previous experience in the fourth room of this training stage and repeat what you did. If you forgot, walk up to the first mirror and jump before it comes down on you. Repeat the same technique for the second mirror and move on to the tenth and final room of this training stage. In this room, you'll see the door that leads you to the last training room, but you'll need to step on the tile to continue. To do this, just keep on running to the right until the character's feet touches the tile. The door opens and your character is allowed entrance to the final stage of the training stage. This is it! After doing a lot of jumping, grapping, and escaping, you have mastered the basic skills that are need in order to beat the game...except one more concept - fighting! Get ready for the last stage of this mode! ---------------- Training 5 ---------------- The last and final entrance door shuts behind you, so go right to enter the second room. When you enter, drop down to the platform and a guard, who is dressed in green and gray (not to mention has three green bottles as his life energy), will spot you and rush to you. Once the main character has unsheathed his sword, your first battle begins. To defeat the guard, walk close to him and wait for him to hit you. When he tries to strike you, press up on your control pad to raise your sword so that you may deflect the other's attack, then immediately press A to strike back with your sword. If your opponent is not doing anything, then try to strike back, but if you don't hit him, you may be left vulnerable to the enemy's attack. Once the guard is defeated (assuming that you struck him three times), the main character sheathes his sword and the battle is done. Walk up to the ledge on the right of that platform, jump up, and head into the third room. The third room is straightforward - just keep on going right, but before you do, you'll see a potion that will both increase your life and give you back any energy that you lost during the previous fight, so drink the bottle before going to the fourth room. The fourth room is just like the second room, only this time, a guard, dressed in green and blue (not to mention has four bottles of energy) awaits you. Defeat the guard (again, press up to defend yourself, then press A to strike your foe), then walk up to the ledge of that platform, jump up, and head into the fifth room. Fifth room is just like the third room - drink up the bottle that will increase your life and move on to the sixth room. The sixth room is just like both the second and fourth room, only this time, a guard, dressed in light blue and yellow (not to mention five bottles of energy) awaits you. Defeat the guard (again, press up to defend yourself, then press A to strike your foe), then walk up to the ledge of that platform, jump up, and head into the seventh room. Seventh room is just like the third and fifth room - drink up the bottle that will increase your life and move on to the eighth room. The eighth room is just like the second, fourth, and six room, only this time, a guard, dressed in light and dark red (not to mention six bottles of energy) awaits you. This will be a tough fight, since this one, just like the last two guards, will be on their guard, so they will resort to defense if you attempt to strike, so keep on your toes and try not to get hit. Defeat the guard (you already know how it works by now! ^_^), then walk up to the ledge of that platform, jump up, and head into the ninth room. Ninth room is just like the third, fifth, and seventh room - drink up the bottle receive more energy and move on to the tenth room. The tenth room is just like the second, fourth, six, and eighth room, only this time, a guard, dressed in purple and aqua green, awaits you. This should be the last battle to do before proceeding to the final room. Again, stay on your guard and try not to get hit a lot. Defeat the guard, then walk up to the ledge of that platform, jump up, and head into the eleventh and final room. Now that you are in the final room, keep on running to the right until your character's feet hit the last tile. The door should open and your character runs up the stairs. This concludes the FAQ for the training mode of Prince Of Persia. The purpose of this FAQ is to help new gamers to understand the controls and what needs to be done when you play the main game itself. Hopefully, the training that you have accomplished will serve you well in your future travels in the dungeon! Good luck saving the princess - you'll need it! ----------------------------------- Credits/Thanks ----------------------------------- First off, I would like to thank my friends and family for believing in me and supporting me in whatever I do. I thank them all for helping me and getting me to be where I am. Without them, I wouldn't even exist today. I like to thank my parents for their encouragement on my hobby as a gamer. Years ago, I wouldn't be playing videogames and becoming famous around the videogame community without their blessing. I love you Mom and Dad! You're the best parents I have! I would like to thank Nintendo for making the SNES. The SNES is one of the best systems I've ever played (though all systems are equal, in my eyes). I wouldn't be playing such classics like Prince Of Persia. I would like to thank GameFAQs for including this small, but detailed guide on their website. ----------------------------------- Copyrights ----------------------------------- The Prince Of Persia training guide has been written by me, starting on March 18th, 2003 and finished on March 22, 2003, on and therefore cannot be copied in anyway, shape, or form.
